Query Answering in Large-scale, Open and Heterogenous Environments

The goal of this line of research is to develop methods and technologies to support query answering in the new contexts provided by the Semantic Web. This provides an unprecedented resource made of billions of formally represented statements, characterised in terms of thousands of different ontologies. Such combination of scale and heterogeneity provides new challenges, as classic solutions used for supporting database queries are not applicable in this context. Specifically, we have developed a system called PowerAqua, which is able to take as input natural language queries and returns answers from data found on the Semantic Web.
